5 Ways To Get Rid of Ants Using Common Household Products

Nobody likes to see ants inside their homes, but many people are concerned about using commercial products, which often contain dangerous chemicals. Luckily, there are ways to get rid of ants using common household products.

5 Ways To Get Rid of Ants Using Common Household Products

Talcum Powder

This product is in chalk and baby powder. Simply draw a chalk line or sprinkle baby powder where ants are invading. Sometimes ants will gain entry another way, so if you use this method, cover all areas where ants could possibly enter.

You will also want to take care not to have you or your children breathe talcum powder in because some studies have suggested there is a link to the substance and cancer.

Make a solution with one part water and one part vinegar and apply where the ants are located. Ants do not like the smell of vinegar and will walk away from it.

However, once the vinegar dries, ants may reappear. Simply reapply the solution.

Coffee Grounds

Ants do not like the smell of coffee grounds, making this an effective way to repel ants from your home.

If you have cats, you may want to skip using this method because felines don’t seem to like the smell of coffee grounds either.

Mix one part borax and one part sugar. Add in some water to make a paste and apply where you see the ants.

The sugar will cause them to carry it back to their colony, but the borax will damage their digestive system and skeleton, which will kill them.

Herbs & Spices

Cinnamon, mint, cloves, and garlic can deter ants and other pests from your cabinets and pantry. Ants are deterred by many herbs and spices because they give off an odor that repels ants and other pests.

There are many different varieties of ants and homeowners may need to try several different methods before they find the one that works for them.

Do you have an issue with ants? I do, when summer comes around.
