6 Ways To Save on Low-Carb Foods

If you are on a low-carb eating plan and think there is no way to lower your grocery bill, you will be surprised at all the different ways you can save.

Contrary to popular belief, you can find coupons for low-carb foods. Look for coupons on bacon, sausage, eggs, cheese, as well as canned tuna and salmon. You can also find coupons for low-carb shakes and specialty foods, but make sure the cost with the coupon is worth it.

Buy in Bulk

Buying in bulk is less expensive and many low-carb foods are available in big packages. Many Walmart stores sell cheese in 5-pound blocks, just grate it yourself and freeze it. Some stores sell a big box of 5 dozen eggs which is cheaper than buying than in single dozen cartons. Ground beef is also less expensive if you buy it in the 10-pound rolls rather than just a pound at a time.

Meat That Stretches

Instead of looking at steak, you should be looking for meats that will stretch for a few meals. Brisket and roast are two items that can be made into several meals.

Whole Poultry

Instead of buying chicken breasts, buy a whole chicken. You can boil the bones for broth to use for soup and cut up the rest for your breasts, thighs, and wings. Whatever tiny pieces of meat that is left over can be used for a chicken salad. You can also buy whole turkeys when they are on sale and it can feed you for several meals.

Eat Your Veggies

Vegetables should take up a major portion of your food intake. Instead of buying fresh or canned veggies, buy the big frozen packages. This way you won’t have to worry about them going bad in the refrigerator and they taste better than the canned variety. Even with the current drought situation, frozen vegetables are still at a competitive price.

Make It Yourself

Skip the specialty baking mixes and low-carb breads; they are too expensive. It is much more economical to make these items yourself. Low-carb baking mixes and breads are usually made with almond, peanut, or coconut flour. There are many recipes available on Google that taste just like the expensive products.

Eating low-carb doesn’t have to be expensive if you use the above tips, add in meal planning, and shop around for the best prices.
